The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday ratified former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The ratification took place at the party’s national convention in Abuja, where delegates overwhelmingly endorsed Obi’s candidature amid cheers and celebration from party members and supporters.
The motion for Obi’s ratification was moved by Victor Umeh, senator representing Anambra Central, and seconded by Ovie Omo-Agege, former deputy senate president.
The endorsement marks a significant step in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, positioning Obi as the party’s standard-bearer in what is expected to be a highly competitive race.
Party leaders at the convention described Obi as a candidate capable of providing purposeful leadership and addressing Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges.
The convention attracted delegates from across the country, who expressed confidence in Obi’s ability to lead the party into the next general election.
