Fresh signs of reconciliation have emerged in Rivers State following a late-night intervention by President Bola Tinubu in the ongoing political crisis.
A source at the Presidential Villa revealed that the President met with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and other key stakeholders from Rivers State.
While details of the discussions were not officially released, the talks are understood to have focused on resolving the prolonged political tensions between Fubara and Wike.
After the meeting, reports indicate that Governor Fubara accompanied Minister Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja.
Unconfirmed accounts suggest that Fubara also made an appeal to Wike, pledging to refrain from actions that could be seen as disrespectful, hinting at a possible thaw in relations between the two prominent political figures.
The meeting comes after months of intense rivalry that began shortly after Fubara assumed office.
The disagreement has divided the Rivers State House of Assembly into factions loyal to either Fubara or Wike, triggering impeachment threats, prolonged legal battles, and repeated legislative disruptions.
The tension stemmed from a struggle for political influence in the state, particularly over party control and governance direction.
Previous reconciliation efforts by party leaders had failed to fully bridge the divide.
President Tinubu’s intervention is viewed as a strategic move to restore political stability, safeguard governance, and prevent further escalation ahead of upcoming political events within the state and the ruling party.
