The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to officially unveil Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election during a high-level meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and key stakeholders in Abuja.

The meeting, currently taking place at the Continental Hotel, has in attendance members of the APC National Working Committee, governors, ministers, federal lawmakers and other senior party leaders.

The formal presentation is expected to put an end to months of speculation over the vice-presidential slot, following widespread reports that President Tinubu was considering replacing Shettima with a northern Christian in a bid to broaden the party’s electoral appeal ahead of the 2027 general election.

However, senior APC leaders at the venue confirmed that President Tinubu has retained Shettima as his preferred running mate and that the party will formally announce the decision at the meeting.

The move is expected to reaffirm the APC’s commitment to maintaining the Tinubu-Shettima ticket that secured victory in the 2023 presidential election, despite sustained political debates over the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket and calls from some quarters for a different balance ahead of the next poll.

The announcement also comes as political parties continue consultations and internal realignments in preparation for the 2027 general election, with the APC seeking to project unity and stability around its presidential ticket.
