Eighteen first-term governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting at the Kebbi State Government House to deliberate on issues of common interest affecting their states and the ruling party.
The meeting was chaired by Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna State and Vice Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), while Nasir Idris hosted the governors.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed to journalists, it was gathered that the governors were expected to review governance issues, strengthen collaboration among first-term APC governors, and discuss matters of mutual interest.
Governors present at the meeting included those from Sokoto State, Kaduna State, Jigawa State, Plateau State, Delta State, Ekiti State, Taraba State, Ondo State, Ebonyi State, Akwa Ibom State, Edo State, Benue State, Kogi State and Enugu State, among others.
The governors of Cross River State, Niger State and Katsina State were absent but sent their apologies.
Journalists remained on standby at the Government House as deliberations continued, with a communiqué or media briefing expected at the conclusion of the meeting.
The meeting comes amid increasing consultations within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections and as governors continue to play a central role in implementing the economic reforms of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Progressive Governors Forum, which brings together APC governors across the federation, has in recent months intensified engagements on governance, economic development, security, infrastructure, and party cohesion.
