As we reported in May, Rotimi Amaechi has been named as the running mate to Atiku Abubarkar on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Presidential election.
The Party says the two will run on what it describes as a “unity and rescue ticket.”
The party said the decision followed extensive consultations with leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, and stakeholders across the country.
Announcing the development, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Amaechi’s emergence reflected his strong performance in the party’s presidential primaries, where he reportedly came second, as well as his experience in public service.
According to the party, Amaechi’s political and administrative background—spanning his time as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation—makes him well-suited to complement Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy.
“The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress, after extensive consultations, is proud to announce Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as its Vice-Presidential Candidate for the 2027 Presidential Election,” the statement read.
It added that the Atiku-Amaechi ticket represents a partnership of “tested statesmen” aimed at addressing Nigeria’s economic, security, and governance challenges.
The party also highlighted Amaechi’s record in infrastructure and transport reforms during his tenure as minister, noting that his experience would strengthen the party’s national appeal.
“The proposed partnership represents more than a political alliance; it is the coming together of two experienced leaders with the capacity to reposition the country,” the statement added.
The ADC said the ticket is intended to unify regions and political blocs while offering Nigerians what it called a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
It urged party members, coalition partners, civil society groups, and Nigerians to support the new political arrangement as part of its broader campaign to “renew the nation and restore confidence in governance.”
