The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed that its presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly primaries will hold nationwide on May 29, 2026, in line with the party’s earlier timetable.
In a statement jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, and National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the party explained that the Eid-el-Kabir holidays had caused transportation and logistical challenges, including limited flight availability across the country.
The party noted that several aspirants who travelled to Abuja for screening exercises, as well as members of the screening committee, experienced difficulties leaving the Federal Capital Territory due to the disruptions.
According to the statement, May 28 has now been set aside for arrivals, documentation with electoral and security agencies, consultative meetings and other preparatory activities ahead of the primaries.
The NDC added that party officials would also use the day to engage stakeholders, elders and aspirants in different states.
It stressed that no government agency, including the Police, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), is expected to participate in any activity scheduled for May 28, warning that any engagement outside the approved guidelines would be regarded as unauthorised.
The party listed the sequence of the May 29 exercise to include presidential affirmation, National Assembly primaries and affirmation, State Assembly primaries and affirmation, as well as governorship primaries and affirmation.
It added that results from the exercise would be collated and transmitted to the party’s national headquarters, where the National Working Committee (NWC) would officially announce the outcomes.
The party further warned that no state executive committee has the authority to independently declare results.
The NDC also urged members and aspirants to maintain peace and order during the exercise, reiterating its zero tolerance for violence, hooliganism and disorderly conduct.
