Suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Friday reportedly attacked a primary and junior secondary school in Mussa village, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting an unspecified number of pupils.
Residents said the attackers, who arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, stormed the community on Friday shortly after troops stationed in the area departed following a patrol operation.
A source in the village said several children were taken during the attack, although the exact number of abducted pupils could not be independently confirmed as of press time.
“Yes, the attack happened in the early hours of Friday, and it was discovered that many children were abducted,” a resident said.
The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, confirmed the incident but said details surrounding the alleged abduction were still unclear.
“Information available to me indicates that many students fled into nearby bushes during the attack, but I do not yet have confirmed details of those abducted,” he said.
He described the incident as disturbing, noting that the insurgents appeared to have monitored troop movements before launching the assault.
“This suggests the attackers were observing the movement of security personnel before carrying out the attack,” he added.
Meanwhile, concern has continued to grow on social media, where users called for prayers and urgent intervention over the incident.
