Uzodimma, Akpabio, Abbas lead APC campaign for Osun poll, inaugurate council Tuesday

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted its National Campaign Council for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, with Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, appointed as chairman.

The party also named Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas as co-chairmen of the council.

Hon. Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, will serve as deputy chairman, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin is the secretary of the council.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the council also includes the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo; Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo; Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani; Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule; Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda; Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago; Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji; and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Other prominent members are APC National Secretary Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, former Governor of Kano State Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, former Governor of Plateau State Simon Lalong, House Leader Julius Ihonvbere, Chairman of the House Committee on Constitution Review Benjamin Kalu, and Chairman of the House Committee on Navy Yusuf Gagdi.

The campaign council also comprises members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, former governors and other party stakeholders drawn from across the country.

The APC also named chairmen and secretaries for key campaign committees. Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will chair the Contact, Grassroots Engagement and Mobilisation Committee with Hon. Oke Oluwole as secretary, while Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu heads the Logistics and Campaign Management Committee with House Majority Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, serving as secretary.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani will lead the Monitoring and Compliance Committee with Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele as secretary. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori chairs the Protocol Committee with Mrs. Hulayat Motunrayo Ayo Omidiran as secretary, while Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule heads the Media and Publicity Committee with APC National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Felix Morka, serving as secretary.

The APC said the council would coordinate the party’s campaign and mobilisation efforts ahead of the Osun governorship election.

To ensure effective coordination of campaign activities, the party also constituted specialised sub-committees covering election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, grassroots engagement, logistics and campaign management, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, persons with disabilities mobilisation, women’s mobilisation and secretariat functions.

The party said the National Campaign Council and its sub-committees will be inaugurated on Tuesday, July 28, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre, Abuja, ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
