President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, from the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Their exit was announced in a memo issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), signed by the SGF, George Akume.
According to the statement, Edun has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.
In the Housing Ministry, the President named Muttaqha Rabe Darma as ministerial nominee and minister-designate, while Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State pending further confirmation processes.
The directive stated that all handing-over processes must be completed on or before the close of business on April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the changes were aimed at strengthening cohesion within the cabinet, enhancing synergy in governance, and delivering more impactful economic outcomes in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.
The President also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours.
Akume further assured that the process of reinvigorating the cabinet would remain continuous.
