In ancient Jewish society, blindness was often seen as a sign of sin or divine punishment, leading to social exclusion and marginalization. By healing Bartimaeus, Jesus challenged these stigmas and demonstrated that everyone deserves dignity and respect, regardless of their physical abilities.
This heartfelt story touches deeply on empowering the marginalized Blind Bartimaeus to take control of his life, transitioning from a life of begging to one of purpose and independence. This transformation inspires us to create opportunities for people with disabilities, promoting inclusivity and equal access to resources.

It challenges us strive to be agents of change, spreading kindness, compassion, and love to all those we encounter- it is no doubt that this narrative is an embodiment of Pastor Umo Eno’s impeccable display of Christ’s character on his meeting with “Bartimeus” Chris.
In a heartwarming display of kindness and generosity, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, last week during the maiden edition of Akwa Ibom Unity Concert, gifted a visually impaired gospel singer, ChrisVic, with a package of life-changing gifts. The governor’s gesture is reminiscent of the biblical story of Jesus Christ and Bartimaeus, the blind beggar, who called out to Jesus for mercy and was healed.
ChrisVic, affectionately known as ‘Bartimaeus’ Chris, was blessed with a plot of land, a fully furnished four-bedroom flat, and ₦100 million to establish a world-class music studio. Additionally, Governor Eno pledged a monthly allowance of ₦1 million to ChrisVic, ensuring his continued support and care.
Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, called out to Jesus for mercy, recognizing Him as the Son of David, the Messiah. Despite the crowd’s attempts to silence him, Bartimaeus persisted, and Jesus rewarded his faith by restoring his sight. This encounter showcases Jesus’ compassion and power to heal, as well as Bartimaeus’ unwavering faith.
Similarly, Governor Eno’s gesture demonstrates his commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities and promoting inclusivity. ChrisVic’s talent and perseverance have earned him the governor’s support, serving as a reminder that everyone deserves a chance to shine, regardless of their abilities or circumstances.
Both stories highlight the importance of faith, compassion, and kindness. Just as Bartimaeus’ faith led to his healing, ChrisVic’s talent and perseverance have earned him Governor Eno’s support. These acts serve as reminders that with faith, compassion, and kindness, lives can be transformed, and destinies can be changed.
It is without any gainsaying that I audaciously infer that the story of Blind Bartimeus as reenactment by Pastor Umo Eno has taught timeless lessons as encapsulated thus:
1. Faith can overcome obstacles: Despite his blindness, Bartimaeus had unwavering faith in Jesus, which led to his healing. The story of Chris’ meeting Pastor Umo Eno is replete with the anecdotes that reflect in the character of Blind Bartimaeus.
2. Persistence pays off: Bartimeus cried out to Jesus repeatedly, despite being told to be quiet, showing determination and persistence. Chris may have encountered situations or circumstances that could have dampened his ability to pursue his vision, but like the Blind Bartimaeus, he forged on.
3. Jesus values the marginalized: Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was noticed and healed by Jesus, showing that everyone is valuable and worthy of love and care. In this context, Chris was noticed by Pastor Umo Eno and provided with respite, signifying love, care and compassion the Governor has, not only for the downtrodden but the entire people of the state.
It is on this basis that I salute Pastor Umo Eno’s rare display of magnanimity towards providing respite to the downtrodden Chris vic and encourage those who find themselves in the position of authority to emulate Umo Eno’s defining character.
