June 12: Gov Eno gives credence to former leaders, sues for unity in Akwa Ibom

As Nigeria celebrates June 12 as its Democracy Day, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno has eulogized past leaders in the state for upholding the tenets and principles of democracy.

He also called on Akwa Ibom people to unite irrespective of party leanings for the peace and development of the state.

Eno made the remarks in a statement on Thursday, in Uyo, in commemoration of the 2025 Democracy
day.

Eno stated that the economic reforms and development under president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration serve as bold testaments that democratic ethos are upheld in the country

His words, “on this day that we collectively mark our consistent ascendance as a democratic society governed by the rule of law and where the voices of the people hold sway, I join you on behalf of the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State, to celebrate our Democracy Day.

“For 26 years, we have enjoyed uninterrupted democratic governance, the culture and traditions of this system of government have been accepted and internalized by Nigerians, especially you my dear Akwaibomites. Our democracy is consolidating and under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we are beginning to see the results of his bold economic reforms and this is great and wonderful.

‘I celebrate all our past leaders who watered the seeds of democratic governance, especially in our dear State, with blueprints that have seen our State, become Nigeria’s Best Kept Secret.

“Let us remain united, eschew bitterness, and constantly be reminded that political parties are vehicles to contest for power, the actual job of governance should be shaped by pan- Akwa Ibom impulses, which we are doing with the Arise Agenda as the Governance Ideology.

‘Together, we will continue to Arise and pray as brothers and sisters, walk with one another and succeed together. Once we are united, nothing can limit us. God bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, God bless our son, the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, God bless Akwa Ibom State, God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,”
