The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victories in Bwari and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clinched Gwagwalada in the February 21, 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council chairmanship elections.
In Bwari, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the APC candidate, Joshua Ishaku, winner of the poll after scoring 18,466 votes.
Announcing the result on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Nurudeen, said Ishaku, having satisfied the requirements of the law, was returned elected.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 4,254 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) secured 3,515 votes to place second and third respectively.
Despite the smooth conduct of the exercise in most polling units, the election in Bwari witnessed notably low voter turnout.
Meanwhile, in Gwagwalada Area Council, the PDP candidate, Mohammed Kasim, emerged victorious after polling 22,165 votes.
Philip Akpeni, the Returning Officer, said Kasim defeated the APC’s Yahaya Shehu, who garnered 17,788 votes, while Biko Umar of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 1,687 votes to come third.
“That Mohammed Kasim, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Akpeni stated.
In AMAC, the APC candidate and incumbent chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, was returned elected after polling 40,295 votes.
Andrew Abue, the collation officer for AMAC, said Maikalangu scored the highest number of lawful votes cast in the election.
The ADC secured 12,109 votes to place second, while the PDP polled 3,398 votes.
According to INEC, AMAC has 837,338 registered voters. A total of 65,676 voters were accredited, while 65,197 votes were cast, out of which 62,861 were valid.
The results of Kuje, Kwali and Abaji area councils are yet to be announced.
