President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to religious freedom, national unity and peaceful coexistence, urging Nigerians to embrace tolerance, love and mutual respect as Christians mark the 2025 Christmas celebration.
In his Christmas goodwill message on Wednesday, Tinubu called on Nigerians to reflect beyond the festivities of the season, stressing that the birth of Jesus Christ symbolises peace, hope, grace and goodwill to humanity.
The President congratulated Christians in Nigeria and across the world, thanking God for the opportunity to serve as the nation’s leader and offering prayers for peace, particularly among citizens of different religious beliefs.
“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence,” Tinubu said.
He emphasised that no Nigerian should suffer discrimination or persecution on account of ethnicity or religious belief, adding that all citizens have the constitutional right to live, worship and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity.
Tinubu noted that since assuming office in 2023, his administration has consistently reassured Nigerians of its resolve to safeguard the security, unity and stability of the country, a commitment he said remains steadfast under God and the Constitution.
The President also commended Christians for their contributions to national development, particularly their role in caring for the vulnerable and promoting peace, harmony and tolerance within communities.
“The love of Christ and the message of the Gospel have inspired many Christians to care for the less privileged in our society. We honour those who work tirelessly to promote peace and understanding, following the example of Jesus,” he said.
Acknowledging the challenges confronting the nation, Tinubu said Christmas serves as a reminder that hope and faith endure even in difficult times, assuring Nigerians that God remains with the country.
He disclosed that throughout the year, he engaged leaders of Nigeria’s major faiths amid concerns over insecurity and religious intolerance, promising to strengthen collaboration between government and religious institutions to prevent conflict and promote peaceful coexistence.
As Nigerians travel to reunite with family and loved ones during the festive period, Tinubu urged motorists to exercise patience and discipline on the roads, wishing all travellers safe journeys and returns.
The President expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future, stating that through collective effort and divine guidance, the nation would continue the task of building a country future generations would be proud of.
