The leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives have postponed the resumption of plenary previously scheduled for Tuesday, September 23 to Tuesday, October 7.
A notice to this effect has been sent to both senators and members of the House of Representatives by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria.
Though the leadership of both chambers didn’t specify any reason for the decision, Danzaria, in a terse statement on Tuesday, said: “With deep regrets, Honourable Members are hereby informed that the resumption of plenary sessions earlier scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, has been rescheduled.
“The new date of resumption is Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Kindly take note and make the necessary adjustments to your schedules accordingly”
Both chambers had in July adjourned for their annual legislative recess slated to span two months.
While making the announcement on July 24, Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed ad hoc and standing committees to continue their work during the break and encouraged senators to use the period to finalise pending reports and carry out oversight duties.
Similarly, the lower chamber which began its recess on Wednesday, July 23, advised members to take advantage of the break to engage in constituency work, attend to local issues, and monitor federal projects within their areas.
The annual recess is a routine part of the National Assembly’s legislative calendar, providing lawmakers the opportunity to balance national duties with constituency responsibilities and personal commitments.
