National Orientation Agency, NOA, Akwa Ibom State Directorate has raised the alarm over the spate of circulation of fake N1000 notes in the riverine communities of the state .
In a Press Release issued by the spokesperson of NOA in the state, Jackson Ibok, on Friday, the agency listed the coastal communities where the fake notes were predominantly circulated to include: Udung Uko, Mbo, Oron, Okobo and Ibeno.
The statement noted that the State Director of NOA, Mkpoutom Mkpoutom through intelligence confirmed that the heinous act is being perpetrated by syndicates who flood the local markets with the counterfeit notes and defraud unsuspecting POS Operators and other merchants.
According to him, “they flood the local markets with fake One Thousand Naira notes with batch number 364232 and 898248 with blurred portrait, watermarks and irregular security features.”
Mkpoutom while describing the act as unpatriotic and heinous said it has the capability of distorting our economy.
He, therefore, appealed to the public to be vigilant and co-operate with security agencies whom he said are doing their best to bring the culprits to book.
