President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his infrastructural drive urging him not to be distracted by “busybodies and bystanders” but to remain focused on delivering his mandate.

Tinubu stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while inaugurating the rehabilitated International Conference Centre (ICC), which has now been renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, in honour of the President.

“You have the foresight, vision and determination to succeed. When I attended the conference of ECOWAS parliament it was a very dirty, disorganised, inhabitable environment.

“Aside from the side talk with the senate president I turned to wike and said this conference center is not reflecting who we are. Have we sung this low? He (Wike) said no, bear with us, we will do whatever we can do to transform the place and you won’t come back here to find it in a dilapidated again and today I am very very happy. ”

The President noted that the refurbished conference centre signals his administration’s commitment to renewal across sectors as encapsulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, education, transportation, and energy.

“We understand that modern infrastructure is the backbone of a thriving economy and a progressive society,” he added.

Tinubu also made it clear that the upgraded facility would not be used freely for social or corporate events.

“You must obey what the landlord says. You want to use this place? You’re going to pay for it,” he declared, backing Wike’s earlier assertion that the halls would come at a cost.

The event was attended by Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Finance Minister Wale Edun; Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi; and other top government officials.
